Born and raised in Toronto, Ruthia has always been creating. She attended York University graduating with a BFA, specializing in painting and drawing. She has since been painting and exhibiting work in Toronto. Her paintings have always been studies in the exploration of light. The capacity in which light can be portrayed as bright on a 2D surface was incredible to her. From there she was continually drawn to seeing light’s various forms throughout nature – imagining the translation on canvas. Using clouds and skies, landscapes and water, she continues to explore the relationship of light to colour and darkness. This process of painting has been (and continues to be) her means of exploring and meditating on the inner world of light and darkness, truth and lies, and the obvious and subtle workings within.
