Hoi Kwon Choi’s Audible Sculptures

Our member Hoi Kwon Choi presents Audible Sculptures at the Toronto International Harp Festival — a remarkable series of sculptural works that blur the line between sound and form. These wooden sculptures are not only visually striking but also function as harps, transforming into instruments when played by harpist Andrew Chan.
Choi, a versatile artist known for his wood sculptures and modern industrial design, moved from Korea to Canada in 1970 to pursue his passion for working with wood. His collaboration with Andrew Chan reflects a shared appreciation for nature, sound, and the beauty of material. In Audible Sculptures, silence takes shape — and sound finds form.
최회권 작가는 토론토 국제 하프 페스티벌에서 Audible Sculptures 시리즈를 선보입니다. 이 작품들은 조각과 악기의 경계를 허무는 독특한 작업으로, 나무로 만든 조형물이 하프로 연주되며 하나의 사운드 퍼포먼스로 완성됩니다. 하프 연주자 앤드류 찬(Andrew Chan)이 이 조각들을 실제로 연주함으로써, 조형물은 생명력을 지닌 악기로 다시 태어납니다.
